I am glad you are getting a little bit of time to yourself to read. It sounds like a good book.
Lessons I have learned lately? My husband needs more love than he admits. My kids need me to look at them and listen to them, not just keep doing what I am doing while they talk. I am working on listening better.

Autumn is the time of year when I have my annual check up at the doctor. I always hate being reminded of time passing by and that I am not what I once was. The quote is beautiful and I must write it down and remember. We are each here for a season and there will be generations to follow.

How wonderful that your mother is 83, and still able to have her independence. Wonnnnderful!

I'm 72, so I guess I'm in my Winter Season too. ,-) Happily, I embrace my inner Crone and don't fret much, over what's been "lost" along the way. Actually, what possible good does fretting over "losses" do? My feeling is that we should concentrate on what's "still working." Doing otherwise, is pretty silly.

But you do remind me that I've not really sat down and pondered what this change of seasons, should mean to me, this time around. I feel we're pretty much moving into the Winter season now. What would I like to do, with this coming Winter? What sounds best? What do I want to spend my time on? Etc. :-)

Thank you for reminding me...

It's great you will have your mother near by. I'm not sure I understand Dr. Remen's thoughts, but I do know the importance of a close family.

Gayle,
That bean soup sounds easy and tasty. I bet it would go nice in the crock pot!
I did not know you were from OK. My brother in-law is from there as well. He still talks about the chiggers, those nasty little bugs you can't even see. :(

I know what you mean by comforting. Something about being inside, warm and with good food on a stormy day.

My standard soup for the winter is a vegetable. I think it is loaded with antioxidants as the veggies simmer in the vegetable broth. I make a large pot of it and have it for lunch for several days. But I love about any soup. And being originally from Oklahoma, just pot of beans with a can of tomatoes and some kind of pork seasoning and cornbread is awesome!

What a great reminder to not take things for granted-it's easy to just go along in life without that pause for reflection, and then miss the multitude of gifts that are right before us. Gratitude is so much more than just a day-I think I'll go snuggle up to my hubby right now and let him know how much he means to me.

Anytime I can get a good excuse for throwing together a pot of soup, is a good one. What's your favorite kind of soup, Gayle? I love storms, too, when everyone is safe and at home.
